July 15, 2013: Chicago

So today was my first day at my camp, Digital Planet: Creatures of the Watery Abyss, at the Field Museum.

 I arrived at the Field at 9am, to a breakfast of muffins, downstairs next to the narwhal display. 11 other kids trickled in until 9:30, and at that time, some of us (Dana, Simone, Sabrina, and Danielle) went to go get our badges. (As a member of one of their teen programs, the Field provides us with badges to get into our classrooms, and they also get us and a few guests into any museum in Chicago for free. Of course, we have to give them back on Friday when the camp ends). 

Then we proceeded to the digital lab (our classroom) which has Macs and iPods on which we can make our movies. The bulk of today was spent in 2 different lectures with the awesome deep sea scientist, Dr. Janet Voight. She also brought us on a tour through the Field's current exhibit, Creatures of Light, which talks some about bioluminescence in deep sea critters. Before the day was over, we werre asked to make a 30sec movie on something we've learned, using stock footage, and footage we took our selfs today. At 3:30 when the fam came to pick me up, I was so exhausted that we just went back to the hotel, and then after a rest, to our friends, Donald and Stephen's house for a pizza dinner.
