Eclipse Chasers
Monday, August 21st, 2017
Boise, ID
Unless you live under a rock, you may remember a little thing that happened last August. Just a small, full solar eclipse, the only one to cross the US in oh, I don't know, 100 years or something. Small deal. Anyway, the media made a huge deal out of it, calling it "The Great American Eclipse". Whatever. Not important or anything. Except TOTALLY COOL AND TOTALLY IMPORTANT!
Thing is though, you couldn't see the full solar eclipse from Minnesota. Just partial. So, Monday morning, neither James nor I are doing anything of any consequence. Just hanging around the house. Now, shifting gears here, there are some advantages to flying standby. Just a few. One is that you can jump on any flight with open seats... And the eclipse might not be viewable from Minnesota, but it is a 99% eclipse in Boise...
So Dad and I decided to hop on a flight and go go go. Because honestly, how many opportunities do you have to see a total solar eclipse?! We literally flew to Boise, got off the plane, ran out through security, and joined a bunch of other space-enthused travelers right outside the airport. It was a good thing we were surrounded by such kind people because us non-planners over here did not buy any eclipse glasses... By the time August 21st rolled around, they were sold out everywhere! Our fellow viewers were more than happy to share theirs so that we could experience the eclipse as well.
I remember hoping that the sky would get completely black... That didn't happen. But it did get very, to quote the vlog, "duskish". After, we had to breeze back through security (pretty easy without anything more than a backpack), and list on a flight home. The flights back were pretty tight, but we managed to get on. It was a fun and crazy spontaneous adventure.
So now my only question is, when and where's the next solar eclipse???
Peace,
Cristiana
